Mr Bongo began as a record shop in London's Soho in 1987. From those origins as a destination for rare Brazilian and Latin records, the label has grown into one of the world's most respected independent imprints, releasing Brazilian jazz, samba, bossa nova, funk, afrobeat, soul and rare groove from across the globe.

The label is defined by its crate-digging ethos. Every release is the result of genuine research, often years of searching, for music that deserves a wider audience. Mr Bongo has introduced British listeners to Brazilian artists who were largely unknown outside their home country, and continues to seek out overlooked music from every corner of the world.
